AniWall (Interactive Wall)

The Wall

AniWall (animal wall) is an experimental motion & gesture tracking system that can support various types of gesture-operated applications: art installations, image galleries, product browsers, slideshows, outdoor and indoor interactive billboards.. The amount of possibile applications is virtually unlimited.

AniWall can understand gestures in two dimenstions and their combinations (for example wiping artboard in the video above). The only user's input device are two hands (or the whole body).

Concept

The idea was to create a base system for interactive art installations & touch-less content browsing, that could be used by any person in any public space, with a little or no learning curve. People would interact with interface using just the language of their body as they do with animals. The system was supposed to be as cheap in production as possible.

Imagine browsing through a shop's offer or news through a window, while standing on a street. Even if the shop is closed.

Both goals were achieved, user testing of the prototype has proven usage of the device in many conditions. Cost of production of the motion-analyzer can be smaller than 50 GBP :) (that doesn't include shuttle PC and display device) Tracking could be more accurate if more expensive hardware was used though.

Future

Many features can be added to enhance AniWall, for example:

  • Live sound interaction (for basic voice commands and music visualisation)
  • Internet connection (live uploading and downloading data)
  • Bluetooth connection (multimedia interaction with users' mobile phones)
